E87.Chassis/dyn10、amic driving systemsAs another member of the BMW 1 Series,theE82 has many features in common with theE87 as far as the chassis and dynamic drivingsystems are concerned.The innovationsfeatured on the E82 and the differences incomparison to the E87 are briefly describedhere.Chassis and running gearThe11、 front and rear axles of the E82 are for themost part identical to those of the E87.Therear axle of the E82 is fitted with modifiedwheel hubs.As a result,the rear track width of the E82 hasbeen widened by 20 mm in comparison to theE87.The exposed wheel housings combinewith the wider track width at t12、he rear toemphasize this vehicle s rear-wheel drive.The springs and dampers have beenspecifically adapted to the E82 in terms ofengine and car weight.They differ,therefore,from those in the E87.In the interests of weight,the front axle of theE82 is fitted with a tube-type anti-roll bar.Sports suspen13、sion tuning is available as anoption.Tyreswithoptimizedrollingresistancefeatureamong the range of measures designed toreduce CO2 emissions.E82 vehicles for theEuropeanmarketwillbefittedwiththesetyresas standard.The following steering systems are fitted inE82 vehicles:Electromechanical power steering14、(EPS-APA,previously fitted,for example,in theE92):fitted as the standard steering in allE82 vehicles delivered in ACEA thanks tomore precise fault code memory entries.As a special case,it should be noted that,invehicles with Active Steering,operation ofthe DSC sensor is monitored by both theDSC control unit and the Active Steeringcontrol unit.Special features of top model 1320、5iThe top model of the E82,the 135i,has thefollowing special features as far as the chassisand dynamic driving systems are concerned:The135ihassportssuspensionsettingsasstandard.The 135i has a set of new 18 mixed tyres.These tyres provide superb grip on dry aswell as wet road surfaces.This results i21、noutstanding handling characteristics thatunderline the sporty nature of this model.The high-performance brake system of the135i has 17 brake discs.Aluminium,fixed-type callipers are used on the 135i insteadofthecast-iron,floating-typecallipersfittedin other models.The 135i has a new DSC function to22、improve traction:brake intervention at thedrive wheels has the effect of improving,inparticular,dynamic acceleration out ofbends,even with DSC switched off.59Electrical systemTheelectrical/electronicssystemoftheE82isidentical to that of the E87 LCI or E81.Thesystems used
