diagnostic system,the gateway(junction box control unit)placesthe requests of the MINI diagnostic system 20、onthe internal busses.The responses undergothe same process in opposite direction.In future,a new communication protocol willbe used for diagnosis.The D-CAN(Diagnostics on Controller Area Network)willreplace worldwide the previous diagnosticinterface and its protocol which is based onKWP 2000(Keywor21、d Protocol 2000).The reason for the changeover is a new legalrequirement in the USA requiring that allvehicles be equipped with the D-CAN as frommodel year 2008.The transitional phase willbegin in September 2006.The E70 and theR56 will be the first vehicles equipped with D-CAN.This modification will22、 then be phased-inon all MINI models.An optical programming system OPS or anoptical testing and programming systemOPPS as well as an OBD connection cable forthe OPS with following identification arerequired to perform diagnostic procedures onthese vehicles.Location of D-CAN
